The single best-kept secret in theatre economics: national touring productions of Broadway hits play hundreds of cities with professional casts and full production values — at prices well below Broadway. Timing tactics
- Weeknight performances (Tuesday–Thursday) price below Friday/Saturday evenings.
- Matinees are often cheaper still — same show, afternoon light.
- Long-running shows soften in price over time; the newest hot ticket carries the premium.
- Early in a tour's local run often beats closing weekend, when scarcity kicks in.
Seat strategy for theatres
- Front mezzanine is regularly cheaper than mid-orchestra and arguably a better view — elevation reveals choreography that orchestra rows miss.
- Rear side orchestra can be excellent value if the theatre's rake (floor slope) is good.
- Boxes look glamorous but often have partial views — check before paying for romance.
